Lightning Strike Downs Power Lines in Western Suburb

A lightning strike Thursday morning downed two power lines in a western suburb.

Fire officials in La Grange Park said the lightning strike took place just before 8 a.m. on 30th Street between Blanchan Avenue and Cleveland Avenue.

Two power lines came down, landing on a garage, a fence, a backyard play fort and on the street.

Officials said a portion of the street was significantly damaged by electrical arcing but no injuries were reported.

ComEd said 88 customers were without power because of the incident but crews were working to restore power Thursday morning.
