Heavy rain caused flooding in several suburban communities Tuesday but for many residents, the flooding fears weren’t over yet.
Several rounds of rain pounded the northern suburbs for hours, but with many of those communities already saturated by recent rain, the latest storms made for a difficult situation.
In Mundelein, rivers of rainwater closed streets and flooded yards and basements. In Grayslake, viaducts became impassable. In Algonquin, police said several streets were flooded, prompting public works crews to distribute sandbags to help residents protect their properties.
Flood Warnings continued Wednesday morning for northern Kane County and along the Des Plaines, Illinois and Fox rivers.
But rivers were expected to continue rising, further threatening area residents.
In the southwest suburbs, some were left cleaning up Wednesday from what was believed to be tornado damage following the storms.
Cleanup was underway Wednesday morning in far southwest suburban Manhattan after a funnel cloud reportedly touched down Tuesday night.

Village officials say a tornado was on the ground for about a minute - but that was long enough to knock down power lines, snap trees and damage a total of about a dozen buildings.
