The first snowflakes of the season are expected to fall in the Chicago area Monday night – and that’s only the beginning of the wintry weather expected this week, including what could be a messy Halloween.
Light to moderate rain will mix with some snow in far northern and northwestern counties late Monday night and into the overnight hours. Some minor accumulation is possible on grassy areas as temperatures are expected to drop into the low- and mid-30s for some locations.
Highs Tuesday will rebound only into the low- to mid-40s before another wave of moisture moves in Tuesday evening and into Wednesday morning. This system could bring a mix of rain and snow across a much larger portion of the area.
Wednesday could see more rain possibly mixed with snow during the morning hours.

Halloween will likely see light to moderate rain throughout the day before the rain begins mixing with snow later in the afternoon and evening hours, continuing overnight and possibly transitioning to all snow for counties west and northwest of Chicago. Some accumulation is likely with this system ahead of a windy and cold Friday.
