Those looking to head to the beach on this cloudy, damp and cool summer day might want to reconsider.
The National Weather Service issued a beach hazards statement warning of high waves and dangerous swimming conditions.
Waves could reach heights of up to 9 feet with strong rip and structural currents expected, the alert warned.
The warning is in effect until Tuesday evening for Lake and Cook counties in Illinois and until Wednesday morning for northwest Indiana, according to NWS.
The Chicago Park District said a swim advisory was in place Tuesday at Calumet, Rainbow, South Shore, Montrose and Juneway beaches.
The Chicago area is expected to see autumn-like weather Tuesday with temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s.
Scattered shows and isolated storms were expected to move out of the area by the afternoon as conditions remain cool, breezy and mostly cloudy.
