Chicago Beaches Open for Summer

Warm weather or not, Chicago’s beaches have officially opened for the summer

Warm weather or not, Chicago’s beaches have officially opened for the summer.

The Memorial Day holiday kicks off the first weekend when beach lovers can swim in the cool waters of Lake Michigan.

The Park District reminds visitors that the temperature of Lake Michigan will stay chilly at the start of the season, and that swimmers should use caution.

Lifeguards will now update the Chicago Park District’s beach website without leaving their post. They will send updates on weather, surf conditions, water quality, plus any restrictions for each of Chicago’s 26 beaches.

Chicago’s 2015 beach season runs from May 22 to Sept. 7. Lifeguards are on duty from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Chicago Park District allows grilling in designated areas. Alcohol is not allowed.
