CTA "L" trains are your best bet if you absolutely need to travel around Chicago, CTA President Richard Rodriguez said.

As buses battle with drifting snow, most trains remain on schedule, including the Brown Line after a power problem shut it down this morning between Kimball and Western. Yellow Line service has been suspended due to drifting. Riders should reroute using the 97 Skokie bus.

Despite a few delays, CTA maintained rail service throughout the night,  Rodriguez said. Bus service will remain challenging, he said, until the snow stops.

Metra closed five lines, including Heritage Corridor, North Central Service, Metra Electric Blue Island Branch, SouthWest Service and Union Pacific McHenry Sub. All other trains are running on Sunday schedules. Officials said they are working to return to a regular schedule by Thursday.

Meanwhile downtown, Chicago Department of Transportation have been clearing sidewalks, bridges and viaducts over expressways since 11 p.m.

The city advised residents this morning to stay indoors and don't drive. Crews are working to clean up snow as fast as possible.
