Beach Hazard Statement
956 AM CDT Tue Aug 4 2020
...LAKESHORE FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM CDT
...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY
* WHAT...Minor lakeshore flooding and dangerous swimming
conditions expected due to large waves to 8 feet and strong
* WHERE...Indiana Lake Michigan shore.
* WHEN...Dangerous swimming conditions will continue through
early Wednesday. A threat for minor lakeshore flooding will
continue through this evening.
* IMPACTS...The large waves and strong currents will result in
life-threatening conditions for anyone who ventures into the
lake. With record high lake levels, inundation of portions of
the lake shore is probable, including locations such as
Whiting Lakefront Park. In addition, beach erosion caused by
the record high lake levels will likely be exacerbated.
Remain away from the lakeshore to avoid the dangerous conditions
and do not venture out onto piers, jetties, breakwalls, or other
shoreline structures. The large waves and inundation of portions
of the lakeshore can easily sweep onlookers into the lake. Please
check with your local authorities on potential beach closures.
