Many parts of the Chicago area woke up to heavy downpours, thunder and flashes of lightning Thursday morning.
In the early morning hours, a cluster of storms rolled through from the far west, pushing slowly eastward and bringing heavy rainfall of about 1 inch per hour to about 40 percent of metro Chicago.
As the storms move east, dark clouds will break for a sunny, warm and humid afternoon with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. The dry conditions won't stay long though, as another round of scattered showers and storms is likely before the evening hours.
While likely to be non-severe, a second wave of storms could again produce very heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
Thursday night will be mild and muggy with some patchy haze and fog before scattered showers re-develop overnight into Friday morning.
Friday will be cloudy, very warm, and humid with scattered showers and storms coming in and out of the area throughout the day. Temperatures climb into the upper 80s, but will likely feel hotter with humidity.
Saturday turns slightly cooler, dipping into the low 80s, but still humid with the chance of scattered showers and storms.

Sunday finally brings some relief from the rain. Temperatures fall into the comfortable mid to upper 70s, with mostly sunny skies and less humidity.
