Severe storms could bring the threat of damaging winds, large hail, lightning and possibly an isolated tornado to parts of the Chicago area Monday.
After an overcast and breezy day, isolated strong to severe storms will be possible ahead of a cold front approaching the area.
Showers are expected to grow more numerous and storms will be likely heading into the evening hours. Some of those storms will be capable of producing 70 mph winds, quarter-sized hail, heavy downpours and lightning. An isolated tornado or two will also be possible, especially across areas along and northeast of Interstate 55.
The storms will likely weaken to showers overnight, which could linger into Tuesday morning for far southern locations and part of northwest Indiana.

Tuesday will stay cool, with highs in the low- to mid-60s in northern areas and in the low- to mid-70s far south.
Scattered showers and storms are possible for the remainder of the week.
