Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Chicago Area

Forecasters issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Chicago area Saturday afternoon.

From 4:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., the storm watch is in effect for Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, LaSalle, Livingston and Will counties, according to the National Weather Service.

With a low of about 67 degrees and winds reaching up to 10 mph Saturday evening, rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch were expected to fall overnight moving into Sunday, forecasters said.

Showers were likely to continue Sunday throughout the day and into the afternoon, according to the weather service. High temperatures were forecast in the 80s, with winds reaching up to 15 mph.
