The Chicago area will need both a warm jacket and a pair of shorts to dress appropriately for yet another weather rollercoaster this weekend.

Friday morning began foggy and overcast with light drizzle. Clouds gradually give way for more sunshine in the afternoon into early evening; becoming windy and much cooler. Highs in the mid to upper 40s along the lakefront warming through the low and mid 50s inland.

A Frost Advisory goes into effect after skies clear, the air turns colder, and temperatures drop into the low to mid 30s overnight. The advisory was issued for 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service warned that sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.

Saturday will be mostly sunny and chilly in the morning, but turning milder in the afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 60s inland, but cooler lakefront.

Temperatures will climb Sunday, becoming windy and much warmer with partly sunny skies. Highs in the upper 70s to low 80s on a brisk SSW wind, so the warmth will reach the city and lakefront.

The dry weather won’t last long, though, as with the return of the work week also brings cloudy skies and the chance of showers and thunderstorms.
