Big Cool-Down, Rain in Store

The Chicago area will see showers, clouds and scattered thunderstorms late Thursday. And you may be turning on the furnace in the days ahead, as much cooler temperatures will arrive when a cold front heads for the Chicago area on Friday and Saturday.

Thursday will see clouds, showers and scattered thunderstorms with a brisk northerly wind, creating the change of season in store.

Rolling rainfall will move into the area in the late afternoon, producing just under 1” in areas off the lakeshore. In the evening hours the system rain showers will come to an end overnight.

Starting in the 60s and warming steadily throughout the day, Thursday will end up in the mid- to upper-70s in the area’s warmest spots.

The evening hours will bring a big drop in temperature, ending in the mid-60s, with the cool down continuing overnight.

Friday’s temperatures are expected to hover in the high 50s and low 60s in the morning.

Heading out for the day Friday, make sure to grab a heavy sweater or jacket to stay comfortable as the highs for the day are only expected to hit mid-60s.

Showers and gusty winds are expected to return Saturday morning and continue through Saturday night.
