Motorist With Flat Tire Killed on Interstate 94

Police say the man was struck by a 25-year-old Milwaukee man driving a 2003 Jaguar

A 62-year-old Illinois man who apparently stopped to change a flat tire on the interstate in Racine County was struck and killed Sunday by a passing driver.

The man, identified as Joseph Lo Piccolo of Deerfield, was struck at about 10:30 p.m. along westbound Interstate 94 by a 25-year-old Milwaukee man driving a 2003 Jaguar, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The driver who struck Lo Piccolo stopped at the scene, police said.

A trooper stopped to check two vehicles on the shoulder of I-94 north of Braun Rd in Racine County. The officer found the victim in a nearby ditch and began CPR. The man could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say they suspect Lo Piccolo had pulled over because of a flat tire and was struck by the passing motorist after exiting his own vehicle.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating and reconstructing this incident.
