Eleven people were transported to hospitals on Friday morning after a crash between a school bus and a passenger car.
First responders were called to the area of Orchard Road and Mayfield Drive, in Montgomery, shortly after 8 a.m. and found the vehicle with severe damage.
Several children on the bus, which was bound for Boulder Hill Elementary, reportedly received minor injuries, and at least one person needed to be extricated from the car by members of the Oswego Fire Protection District.
The person in the car was transported to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. Ten students were taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center. Another 21 students were OK and were taken to school on a different school bus, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Matthew Wendt said.
"The safety and welfare of our students is our primary concern," Wendt said. He added that district staff responded to the scene after learning of the crash.
