One Injured in Train Versus Car Crash

A Metra train hit a vehicle near the south suburban Midlothian station Monday, injuring one person and temporarily halting Rock Island Line service.

All train tracks were blocked after outbound train No. 422 struck the vehicle near the Midlothian station before 5:30 p.m., Metra said.

One man, a passenger in the car, was hurt. He was conscious and taken to an area hospital, according to a release from Midlothian Deputy Police Chief Steve Zamiar.

All inbound and outbound service was temporarily halted, but trains were cleared to move through the area again as of about 6:15 p.m., Metra said.

Metra police are investigating.
