One person was hospitalized following a collision involving a Metra train and a vehicle Monday afternoon in north suburban Northbrook.

Milwaukee District/North Line Train No. 2136, traveling from Fox Lake to Union Station, struck a vehicle at a grade-crossing near Dundee and Waukegan roads about 1:30 p.m., Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said.

Witnesses said the lights were flashing and the crossing gates were down when the crash happened.

The train was due in Northbrook about 1:30 p.m. and was stopped after the incident but was back on the move as of about 2:20 p.m., according to Metra.

At least two ambulances were sent to the scene, which reportedly involved entrapment, unconfirmed dispatch reports indicated.

The driver of the car, a man who appeared to be in his 80s, was injured and taken to an Evanston Hospital but is expected to be OK.

Northbrook police referred inquiries to Metra, which is handling the investigation.
