IDOT Worker Struck by SUV on Kennedy Expressway

Charges pending against 22-year-old driver of SUV, police said

An Illinois Department of Transportation employee was injured late Sunday when his truck was struck by an SUV on Interstate 90/94.

The IDOT employee was getting back into his vehicle at about 11 p.m. after helping a motorist fix a flat tire on the southbound shoulder of the Kennedy Expressway near Addison Street when a 22-year-old man driving an SUV slammed into him, Illinois State Police Sgt. Rodney Collins said.

The IDOT worker suffered minor injuries to his left arm and was taken to Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center in good condition, Collins said.

The 22-year-old SUV driver was taken in good condition with minor facial lacerations to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, he said.

Police said alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges were pending against the driver of the SUV.

An Illinois Tollway employee was killed and an Illinois State Police trooper was seriously injured last week when they were struck by a tractor-trailer while helping another disabled driver.
