CTA Price Changes Go Into Effect Monday

The cost of most CTA passes will increase, but students will pay less

Be prepared to pay more for many of the Chicago Transit Authority passes on Monday.

A price hike for monthly, weekly, three-day and Metra Link-Up passed by the CTA last month goes in to effect this week, starting Monday.

The price for monthly CTA passes will increase from $86 to $100. Weekly passes increase to $28 from $23. Three-day passes are going from $14 to $20, and one-day passes will nearly double, from $5.75 to $10.

The Metra "Link-up" Pass is going up $10, to $55, and the reduced-fare for seniors will rise to $1 from 85 cents (low-income seniors will continue to ride at no cost).

But prices are not going up for everyone.

Parents with children who ride the CTA to school will get a small break. Elementary and High School students between the ages of 7 and 20 can ride for a reduced fare of 75 cents during school days .

There's also a temporary reprieve for Chicago Card and Chicago Card Plus riders who take the Blue Line from O'Hare International Airport, though. A proposal called for raising the $2.25 fare for those who depart from the airport to $5. O'Hare employees balked at that, and the board did an about face.

However, tourists will still pay the $5 fare for a one way trip from O'Hare into the city.

Check out the CTA's website for more information about the fare changes.
