CTA Adds Decorated Bus to Holiday Season

New Holiday Bus debuts Nov. 22, followed by the Holiday Train on Nov. 28

The Chicago Transit Authority this year is adding another way to celebrate the holidays.

The "holiday bus" will join the "holiday train" on a rotation of routes beginning December 2.

The 60-foot bus, adorned with hundreds of white and multi-colored lights and a festive exterior wrap featuring "Ralphie the Reindeer," will debut Saturday at the Magnificent Mile Festival of Lights parade.

The bus will then appear on the following routes:

Dec. 4: #62 Archer
Dec. 5: #62 Archer
Dec. 6: #3 King Drive
Dec. 9: #3 King Drive
Dec. 10: #12 Roosevelt

Dec. 12: #66 Chicago
Dec. 13: #66 Chicago
Dec. 17: #56 Milwaukee
Dec. 18: #56 Milwaukee
Dec. 19: #22 Clark
Dec. 20: #22 Clark
Dec. 22: #124 Navy Pier
Dec. 23: #49 Western

The bus will generally operate from about 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and select weekdays and will serve all posted stops along the respective routes, the CTA said.

The holiday train, now in its 23rd year, will debut on the Green Line the Friday after Thanksgiving and continue riding the rails through December 23.

Green Line: Nov. 28, 29 & Dec. 2
Brown/Orange Lines: Dec. 3-6
Pink Line: Dec. 9, 10
Blue Line: Dec. 11-13
Red Line: Dec. 16, 18, 22
Purple Line: Dec. 17, 18
Red/Purple Lines: Dec. 20
Yellow Line: Dec. 23

Commuters can use the CTA's Train Tracker to track the approximate whereabouts of the decorated six-car train. It'll be marked with a candy cane next to arrival time information.
