A motorist was hospitalized Tuesday night when two semi truck and a car collided on the Bishop Ford Freeway, causing a fuel spill that forced the closure of all outbound lanes.
The crash happened just before 9 p.m. on the Bishop Ford Freeway -- Interstate 94 -- near 130th Street, according to an Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper.
Two semi trucks and one car crashed in the outbound lanes, according to Fire Media Affairs. The driver of one of the vehicles was taken to St. Margaret Hospital in Hammond, Ind., while other people involved refused medical treatment, Fire Media Affairs said.
The driver’s condition was not immediately disclosed.
At least one of the vehicles is leaking, prompting emergency crews to call a Level I Hazardous Materials response just before 9 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs.
About 200 gallons of fuel has spilled onto the roadway so far, Fire Media Affairs said.
State Police said all outbound lanes were closed after the crash, and it is expected to take at least an hour to clean up the spilled fuel.
