Rollover Closes Southbound Bishop Ford for Five Hours

All lanes of traffic were reopened at about 4:30 a.m.

All southbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Cottage Grove Avenue -- the Bishop Ford Freeway -- were closed for more than five hours late Friday and early Saturday after a tractor-trailer rolled.

The accident happened about 11:15 p.m. Friday when a Ford Mustang changed lanes and braked in front of a Freightliner tractor-trailer to avoid a car accident, said Illinois State Police Chicago District Trooper Mark Hall.

The truck hit the car, swerved abruptly to the left and overturned. The Mustang ended up in a ditch on the right.

The driver of the Mustang was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, and the truck’s driver was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, Hall said. Neither had life-threatening injuries.

All lanes of traffic were opened at about 4:30 a.m. after crews righted the semi and cleared the scene,
Illinois State Police District Chicago Master Sgt. Joe Stangl said. He said crews were able to move the semi without spilling any of the trailers’ contents, a hazardous material he said was flammable.

Citations were pending Saturday morning, Stangl said.
