A pedestrian was stuck and killed by an inbound Metra Electric train on the Blue Island branch Monday morning.
The train hit the pedestrian around 5:45 a.m. near the Ashland station in Calumet, and trains were stopped in both directions for about an hour.
This is the second Metra death in as many days. On Sunday night, a woman was killed after apparently stepping onto the tracks in front of an oncoming train.
It happened in the 2600 block of North Western Avenue, and police said the woman was dead at the scene when they arrived.
The woman, described as being in her 30s, remained unidentified Monday morning. The Cook County medical examiner's office has scheduled an autopsy.
About 50 to 60 people were on the train at the time of the incident, according to a Metra spokesman.
Normal service in both directions on the UP-N line was restored early Monday.
