Woman Hit and Killed by Metra Train in Cary

Inbound and outbound train movement was halted and extensive delays were expected, Metra said

A woman was struck and killed by a train in a far northwest Chicago suburb Tuesday morning, halting inbound and outbound train movement in the area. 

The rail agency said the person was struck by train no. 603 on the Union Pacific Northwest Line just before 7 a.m. at West Main Street near U.S. Route 14 in Cary. Further information on what happened wasn't immediately known. 

Inbound and outbound train movement was halted and extensive delays were expected, Metra said. 

Police said the woman suffered fatal injuries and the incident remained under investigation.
