A small plane carrying two people crashed in LaSalle County near far southwest suburban Newark Friday afternoon.

The two-seater plane crashed about 3:30 p.m. near Cushing Field Limited Airport, near the intersection of Route 71 and County Line roads outside of Newark, according to sheriff’s police from Kendall and LaSalle counties.

Early reports indicate the plane got tangled in wires near Route 71 and knocked power out in the area.

Two people were aboard the aircraft, said Elizabeth Isham Cory, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration. They reportedly had to be extricated.

Emergency crews are currently at the scene, police said. There was no immediate word on injuries.
