Several people, including students, were injured following a crash involving a school bus and a dump truck in southeast Indiana Wednesday.
The crash happened just after 8 a.m. on State Route 350 in Dearborn County near Aurora, according to authorities.
As many as 21 people were hurt in the crash, most of them students, according to NBC affiliate station WLWT 5. Indiana State Police Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, citing preliminary information, said 18 students and the school bus driver were transported for treatment of their injuries. The injuries were "mostly minor," Wheeles reported.
Police were working with school officials to identify the injured students.
Officials with the Dearborn County Commuter Schools told NBC affiliate station WLWT 5 the bus was on an express route from Morris Hill to Dearborn campus when the crash occurred.
A spokesperson for Rumpke, the trash service provider which owned the dump truck, toldthe station the driver of the truck was also injured by debris in the crash. The spokesperson said the driver was assisting a customer outside of the truck when the school bus rear-ended the vehicle.
Authorities did not immediately release a cause of the crash.
