Metra UP-W Service Resumes With Delays After Pedestrian Hit, Killed Near Villa Park

“The duration of this delay is unknown but extensive delays are expected,” Metra officials wrote in a tweet

A person was fatally struck by a Metra Union Pacific-West train in west suburban Villa Park, causing extensive delays during Tuesday’s morning commute.

Inbound Train 26, which was not scheduled to stop in Villa Park, hit and killed the pedestrian about 7:45 a.m. somewhere between the Villa Park and Elmhurst stations, according to Metra officials.

Trains were stopped in both directions after the pedestrian was hit, but one track was reopened shortly after 9 a.m., Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said. Train movement through the area will prioritize inbound service.

Some trains will run express as service resumes, and passengers should expect extensive delays, according to Reile. Riders are advised to listen to platform announcements or check Metra’s service alerts for the latest train information.
