Gag Order Issued in Hit-and-Run Case

Cozmanoff was expected to plead guilty but no plea was entered

A gag order was issued in the case of a suspect charged in the Indiana hit-and-run crash that killed a corrections officer last week.

Jason Cozmanoff, 42, of Lakes of the Four Seasons, Ind., appeared before a criminal court judge for a special hearing Wednesday morning. The Lake County sheriff expected Cozmanoff to plead guilty but no plea was entered.

Cozmanoff was charged with reckless homicide and criminal recklessness in the March 6 death of Officer Britney Meux. He is currently out on bail.

An SUV crashed into Meux and three other corrections officers while they jogged in Crown Point near the Lake County Sheriff’s complex. Meux died and her co-workers were hurt.

Cozmanoff could face up to 49 years in prison, if convicted instead of pleading guilty.
