Commuters Wake To Snow, Strong Winds

Later in the week the snow gets worse

Chicago commuters woke up Tuesday morning to a dusting of snow for the drive to work.

A weak system could leave up to an inch of snow in grassy areas, and light snow likely will hang around for much of the day. Blowing snow is expected to reduce visibility at times as strong winds gusting between 40 and 45 mph continue throughout the day.

The snow won't last long. Showers likely will taper to flurries by late morning, and early moring temperatures fall into the teens then hold steady with wind chill readings below zero.

The forecast shows Wednesday wind chills dragging temperatures to below 10 degrees before temps rebound Thursday with highs in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

That's when the snow gets worse. Heavier snow fall is predicted for late Thursday afternoon to remain until Friday. Up to three to five inches of accumulation are possible.

Some models show the system weakening as it hits Chicago later in the week.
