Father of 3 Killed in West Rogers Park Hit-and-Run

Anyone with information about the incident or the car is asked to call Chicago Police.

A hit-and-run crash Monday night in Chicago's West Rogers Park neighborhood left one pedestrian dead and another injured, police said.

The men, 44-year old Tsering Dorjee and his brother-in-law, 46-year-old Dakpa Jorden, were crossing the street around 6 p.m. at West Devon Avenue and North Maplewood Avenue when they were both struck by a car. Police said the vehicle sped away north on Maplewood.

"Usually they slow down," said neighbor Hameed Khan, who favors adding a four-way stop to the intersection. "But sometimes they don't slow down."

The men were rushed to St. Francis Hospital. Jorden suffered a broken leg but will recover. Dorjee, father of three young boys and a 14-year employee of Cook County Clerk David Orr, was pronounced dead from his head injuries.

"The guy had three little kids, they just had another little boy and it's a family," said Dorjee's neighbor, Andy Mueller.  "It's just a tragedy, and it's not right."

Orr said people in the office shed tears this morning when they learned of his death.

"Tsering Dorjee was a much-loved member of my vital records staff since 1998," Orr said in a statement. "Tsering was an incredibly kind soul and dedicated public servant."

Dorjee's wife, Kalsang Wangmo, is now left alone to care of the couple's three boys, ages 1, 3 and 6.

"He was a good father. I have three little boys and I don't know what to do now," Wangmo said.

The car involved in the hit-and-run is described as a dark blue Volkswagen Beetle with the Illinois license plate number P121817.
