Shooting on Chicago Skyway Leaves Man Dead, Woman Injured

Outbound lanes of the roadway were shut down at the Dan Ryan Expressway

Two people were shot, one of them fatally, on the Chicago Skyway Wednesday afternoon.

The Chicago Fire Department said it received a report around 1:30 p.m. of two people shot near 98th Street and the Skyway.

Police said a BMW was traveling on the Skyway bridge over the Calumet River when it was approached by a black SUV with an unknown number of people inside. Someone inside the SUV fired shots at the BMW, hitting a 25-year-old man multiple times.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. He was later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Officer as Elliot Brown, of the 4000 block of South Calumet.

A 23-year-old woman was also shot in the left arm and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

The SUV fled the scene after the shooting. Police believe the shooters had previous contact with the victims before the incident, but no arrests were made as of 6:30 p.m.

As of 5:45 p.m., all lanes along the Chicago Skyway were reopened.
