1 Dead After Semis Crash on I-55

One person was killed in an accident involving two semi-trucks on Interstate 55 Monday night.

The accident happened around 8 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the roadway near mile marker 230 in Grundy County and resulted in both trucks bursting into flames.

David Conway, 37, of Iowa, was killed in the crash and another driver suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to Illinois State Police.

Details surrounding what happened weren’t immediately clear.

Police said both northbound and southbound traffic was shut down for several hours after the crash.

The northbound lanes reopened around 1:15 a.m. but southbound lanes remained closed for more than six hours after the crash. As of 3 a.m., one left lane had been opened, but authorities said the right lane could be shut down until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
