1 Dead, 1 Hurt in Overnight Motorcycle Crash

Two motorcycles collided at 11:40 p.m. Thursday on the Kennedy near O'Hare Airport

A Harwood Heights man died late Thursday in a motorcycle crash on the Kennedy Expressway near O'Hare Airport.

Police said Tom Winkelman, 43, of the 6500 block of West Forest Preserve Drive, was driving a Harley Davidson in front of his friend when the two motorcycles collided around 11:40 p.m.

It's not clear what caused the crash, but police told the Chicago Tribune Winkelman may have tried avoiding another vehicle. Winkelman also may have been struck by the friend's motorcycle after the crash, according to police.

The friend, an unidentified 22-year-old man, was in serious condition Friday morning at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. No charges are expected against him, police said.

The crash shut down westbound lanes for most of the night and morning.
