Mother Charged in I-57 Rollover Crash That Injured 8

Six children, including 8-month-old twins, injured in rollover crash

Charges were filed early Monday morning against a mother who authorities said was driving drunk on Interstate 57 when she hit a guard rail and rolled the vehicle.

Two adults and six children, including 8-month-old twins, were injured in the 9:30 p.m. Sunday crash near 111th street.

Alexis Green, 22, of Joliet was charged with DUI and child endangerment, authorities said. She is the mother to at least one of the children on board.

Four people initially were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, two in critical condition and two in serious condition. Two were taken to University of Chicago Hospitals in critical condition, and two people were taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park in serious condition, according to a fire department spokesperson.

An 8-month-old girl remained in serious to critical condition on Monday. Her twin sister and the other children and adults were not as seriously injured.

The other children in the car are 2, 4, 5 and 7 years old, police said.

All southbound lanes were closed on the expressway for about 30 minutes, police said.

The exact cause of the crash was unknown Monday morning.
