Officer, Two Others Injured in Crash During Traffic Stop

No serious injuries reported after crash on 7400 block of South Halsted Street

A Chicago police officer and two others were injured in an alcohol-related crash in the Englewood neighborhood early Wednesday, police said.

Two police officers had stopped the driver of a car on the 7400 block of South Halsted Street when a dark-colored SUV struck the passenger door of the officers’ squad car.

One officer and the two men who were initially stopped were struck by the car at around 12:45 a.m., police said. The officer who was struck jumped in an attempt to avoid being hit and landed on the sidewalk, injuring his knee, police said.

The crash was alcohol-related, police said.

The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with non life-threatening injuries and was released early Wednesday morning, police said. The other officer was not injured.

The two other men who were struck were taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center with non life-threatening injuries and were also released, police said.

The man who struck the squad car is in custody, police said.
