Train Hits Car, Derails on Northwest Side

A CTA Brown Line train crashed into a car and then hit the platform at the Kedzie station this morning on the Northwest Side.

The CTA train operator and a person in the car were hospitalized Sunday.

The train struck the vehicle at 7:10 a.m. in the 4600 block of North Kedzie Avenue according to police.

The driver of the car was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious to critical condition.  A fire department spokesperson, Joe Roccasalva,  says the train operator was "shaken up" and taken to the hospital, "just to get checked out."

No passengers on the train were injured.  The crash caused the train to derail according to the fire department.

A CTA system advisory advised Brown Line riders that there were "significant delays" Sunday morning because of the incident, and service has been temporarily suspended between the Kimball and Western stations as of about 8 a.m.
