Man Standing on Bishop Ford Overpass Sign Temporarily Shuts Down Traffic

A man standing on a sign over the highway shut down traffic in both directions on the Bishop Ford Expressway on Tuesday afternoon near south suburban Calumet City.

The man climbed a freestanding sign over I-94 near 147th Street about 1:20 p.m., according to Illinois State Police.

All lanes of traffic were temporarily closed in both directions at 147th Street, police said. Traffic was diverted at Dolton Avenue and 159th Street while officials tried to talk to the man down.

Commuters are advised to take alternate routes.

Calumet City police along with ISP troopers were able to talk the man down and reopen all lanes of traffic by 3:15 p.m.
