Baby, I Need a Sitter!

Babysitter search site about to get a lot bigger

A Web site that promises to be the answer to every parent's prayers is about to get bigger. On Wednesday, Crain's reported that Sittercity.com is getting a huge cash infusion to help it grow.

Sittercity.com will match you up with a babysitter, pet sitter, senior sitter, house sitter -- even a tutor -- who's been vetted through a four-step screening process. Sitters have a bio on Sittercity, you can access their schedule and, if you're a member, even run a background check. And after you find a sitter, you can rate them on the site to help other members pick the perfect sitter, or avoid one who sucks.

Sittercity is based in Chicago and is headed by an up-and-coming entrepreneur, Genevieve Thiers.

The $7.5 million investment brings with it some new board of director members for Sittercity.

"Our new investors and directors have been intimately involved in the creation and growth of some of the most important Internet subscription and media companies in the U.S. and Europe over the past decade," Thiers told Crain's.
