It's All About Kitchens and Bathrooms

When making remodeling plans, pay attention to these two hot spots

You know you do it. When visiting a friend's house for the first time, you automatically check out the kitchen and the bathroom(s). Both rooms equal comfort and relaxation, albeit in very different ways.

Interior designer Michelle Rohrer-Lauer of Grayslake-based Michelle's Interiors advises her clients on how to bring their kitchens and bathrooms to life. She suggests that updating these areas not only adds value to a home, but brings more enjoyment, both mentally and physically, to the owners. There are easy remodeling projects that can make a world of difference in these all-important rooms.

For the kitchen, Rohrer-Lauer recommends investing in modern appliances and cabinetry. These items make up the bulk of the kitchen space, so by updating those, you create a bright, fresh look. Up-to-date appliances also have the added benefit of being more energy efficient, saving money in the long run.

In bathrooms, many homeowners are looking for the feel of a spa retreat. New shower fixtures and little luxuries like heated floors can create calming, peaceful environments where you can relax and chill out for a while. At least until someone starts knocking on the door.
