Wines With a German Accent

Sip white wines from Germany, Austria and Alsace during Riesling Week

The fifth annual Riesling Week, brought to you by Wines of Germany and Destination Riesling (a campaign promoting European riesling wines), is taking place this week through Sunday, May 24. The event is designed to showcase rieslings from Germany, Austria and Alsace and takes place in restaurants and retail stores in Chicago, New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco and Miami.

In the Chicago area, 15 restaurants and 15 wine shops will participate in Riesling Week, offering everything from highlighted food pairings and glass pours to tastings dedicated to the various types of rieslings. (Hint: they're not all sweet.) Riesling Week shows off the versatile varietal, demonstrating how the wine can be a perfect complement to a warm-weather meal.

Participating local restaurants range from fine dining destinations like NoMI, Frontera Grill and Carlos', to casual wine bars like Webster's and D.O.C. Tastings will take place at such wine boutiques throughout the area as Lush Wine & Spirits, Provenance Food & Wine and Binny's. For a complete list of venues, visit the Riesling Week Web site.
