Sure Beats Making a Run for the Border

Zocalo's lunch buffet fills you up without emptying your wallet

A quick, inexpensive Mexican lunch spot? Ring a bell? Get your mind off of fast food and your hungry tummy into Zocalo, an upscale Mexican spot in River North. The restaurant has just introduced a gourmet lunch buffet for $10.95 per person that will get you in and out the door in a flash, minus the post-drivethru remorse.

The bounty of buffet items changes every day, but you can expect to find such treats as homemade tamales, mini burritos, fajitas, and a variety of enchiladas, plus soup, salad and a stocked salsa bar. There is also a "taquiza," a traditional taco bar, piled with braised and grilled meats including beef barbacoa, chicken tinga, crispy duck carnitas and Yucatan-style pulled pork. Desserts like flan and tres leches cake are also included in the buffet, and a special lunchtime $5 margarita might make you a little late back to work. (But we won't tell.)

Zocalo's gourmet lunch buffet is served Monday through Friday from 11:30AM-2:30PM.
