Slumdog Party at Vermilion

Root for an Oscar favorite at this festive pre-party

It's pretty obvious what movie the folks at Vermilion Restaurant, 10 W. Hubbard St., will be rooting for on Oscar Night.  They are, after all, throwing a ''Slumdog Pre-Oscar Party'' on Saturday, Feb. 21, the night before the Oscars. Nominated in nine categories (with two nominations in the Best Original Song category) including Best Motion Picture, ‘Slumdog Millionaire,' a story about a Mumbai teen who grew up in the slums, is the inspiration behind the party at this Indian/Latin themed restaurant. A troupe of live Bollywood dancers will be on hand to teach moves to ‘Jai Ho,' one of the Oscar-nominated songs, and there will be a DJ and dancing with a $15 cover after 9:30 p.m.  Indulge in spicy cocktails like the pani puri margarita, blood orange chili caipirinha or garam masala bloody mary, and dig into street Bombay cuisine like the Kabab Platter, Chaat Platter, Dhaba Thali and Mithai.
