Schaumburg Starbucks May Soon Serve Alcohol

The store hopes to serve beer and wine starting in the spring

People who live in the northwest suburbs might soon be able to enjoy a different kind of drink at a Starbucks in Schaumburg.

The store at Streets of Woodfield is expected to be one of the first five Chicago area locations to sell alcohol, according to the Daily Herald.

Starbucks announced in January it would begin serving wine and beer at a handful of locations across the country, including Chicago. Five to seven locations will be in place by the end of 2012.

Along with the wine and beer selections, the stores may also offer a premium food menu, with items such as savory snacks, small plates and hot flatbreads.

The idea is to accommodate people who go to the coffee shop in the afternoon and at night but don't want to drink coffee.

The Village of Schaumburg must still approve the liquor license, which could take about four to eight weeks to process, according to the Daily Herald.
