If you've ever wondered where your food comes from, a unique dinner will give you a chance to see your dish's origins first hand. Lockwood, the elegant restaurant in the Palmer House Hilton, will host a dynamic "digital tasting" and benefit dinner from 6-9PM on Tuesday, April 21.
Lockwood executive chef Phillip Foss has teamed up with farmer Lee Jones of The Chef's Garden in Huron, Ohio, to bridge three states and 300 miles via video conferencing for this innovative fundraiser, which will benefit Veggie U, a nonprofit project by the Culinary Vegetable Institute and The Chef's Garden that teaches kids about good nutrition. Throughout the course of the dinner, Foss will use a live Internet feed to connect with Jones, who will be broadcasting from inside a greenhouse at The Chef's Garden. Foss and Lee will discuss sustainable farming practices along with showcasing the actual produce used in the event's menu. In a cool interactive gesture, guests can garnish their dishes with vegetables highlighted during the conversation.
Veggie U director Debra Nickoloff will be on hand to host a silent auction at the benefit. Coveted items such as stays at the Palmer House Hilton, Lockwood signature tasting dinners, tickets to The Chef's Garden Food & Wine event and packages of herbs, micros and greens, will be up for grabs.
