Already a hit across the pond, Espression is opening its first U.S. venture on the arcade level of the Drake Hotel. Lucky us.
Espression by Lavazza boasts a beyond-the-ordinary decor, boasting an energetic color palette of red, white and black, high-style Italian furnishings and dramatic scribble-esque artwork. The menu goes above-and-beyond the scone-and-salad set, as well, offering dishes conceived by Ferran Adria of the world-famous El Bulli and Moreno Cedroni. Expect to find hearty sandwiches such as a brie-and-prosciutto panini with fig and tangerine marmalade, gourmet entrees like a smoked salmon caprese and a tempting variety of fresh breads, croissants, muffins and cookies.
Coffee drinks are made with flair, of course, including the "Espesso," a mousse-like solid espresso created by chef Adria that won Time magazine's "Best Invention" award. Your move, Starbucks.
