Celebrating Both Burger and Barbecue Month

Restaurants that are reveling in the joy of meat this magical time of year

May is both National Hamburger Month and National Barbecue Month, which makes perfect sense to us. With cookouts the preferred way to dine this time of year, who isn't in the mood for some charbroiled goodness? Here are a few restaurants that will help you commemorate these all-important culinary occasions:

The two locations of Timothy O'Toole's Pubs (Streeterville and Gurnee) make excellent places to enjoy National Hamburger Month with the "Big Timmy Challenge." Through May 31, those brave souls who can polish off a Big Timmy -- two half-pound burger patties; cheddar, jack, Swiss and mozzarella cheeses; bacon; onion straws; barbecue sauce; lettuce and red onion, served with French fries AND onion rings ($19.99) -- will be awarded for their efforts with a T-shirt. Hope it still fits.

It's grills gone wild at Sheffield's in Lakeview for National Barbecue Month, where smokers are always cooking up ribs, chicken, pulled pork, sausage, brisket and more. The friendly bar and beer garden has a new lunch menu, which is heavily focused on the 'cue, featuring a barbecue pork sandwich ($4.95) and a half-chicken entree ($7.95). Sheffield's has also introduced "BBQ Thursdays" every week at 7PM. An all-you-can-eat barbecue spread will be yours for the picking for $13.95 per person, offering all of the fixin's, plus cornbread and coleslaw.
