"Chic Chicago: Couture Treasures from the Chicago History Museum," an exhibition of garments dating from 1861 to 2004 that represent Chicago's place in the fashion world, has been a runaway hit since it opened last September. Several special events are planned in conjunction with the exhibition's run at the Chicago History Museum through July 26, such as the "Inside Chicago Fashion" seminar series, which take place on Tuesday, March 3 and Tuesday, March 10.
Coming up this week is "The Marshall Field's Factor," a look at the influence this powerful retailer had on clothing and consumer culture in Chicago and across the country. Chicago History Museum curator of costumes Timothy Long will lead this discussion on the iconic Chicago institution, while a display of Marshall Field's memorabilia from the museum's collection will also be on hand.
Tuesday, March 10 brings "Fashion Forward," a panel discussion covering Chicago's current design scene and the future of fashion in our city. The panel will be moderated by NBC-5 contributing fashion reporter Barbara Glass and will host Thea Robinson, manager of the Michigan Avenue Burberry store, designers Dieter Kirkwood and Bennett Cousins of DieterBennet and designer Anna Fong.
