There's No Place Like… Chicago

"Wicked" to make eight-week engagement over holidays

Glinda, Elphaba and the flying monkeys are coming back to Chicago.

One year to the day after the final curtain call at Chicago's Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theater, the producers of "Wicked" announced that the... *ahem*...  "Popular" musical will return for an eight-week engagement over the next holiday season.

The Stephen Schwartz-Winnie Holzman musical will be performed at the Cadillac Palace Theatre -- a slightly larger venue -- for the performances, which are currently slated for Dec. 1 through Jan. 23, 2011.

The company will not be the same what was in Chicago previously, the Chicago Tribune explains:

This is an extended engagement by the first national tour. Actually, that company was the first "Wicked" to play in Chicago, before it moved on to its next engagement and left a dedicated Chicago troupe behind. Casting for the fall engagement has not yet been fully determined.

Almost 3 million people saw the show during its previous three-and-a-half year run.

Tickets will go on sale to Broadway In Chicago subscription series holders and groups on Feb. 23, with individual tickets coming available at a later date to be announced.
