Whiskey Sales Fermenting Nicely

Know what's selling these days? Whiskey. That's right -- good old-fashioned bourbon whiskey. Just flying off the shelves. Have the blues over your bills? Drink down a bottle and be ready to kill. Or just pass out. While top-shelf vodka, tequila, and rum dominated the last few years, whiskey sales are red hot. Makers Mark and Jack Daniels are selling well, and sure, those are fine drinks. But when contemplating washing dishes at a greasy spoon for extra cash, you might want to go cheap with my personal favorite: Early Times (for better times!). But if brown liquor isn't your thing, all is not lost.

Try the Recessionary Storm created by John Sherman, beverage director of New York’s STK.

● 1 1/2 ounces Smirnoff blueberry vodka
● 1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
● 1 ounce fresh sour mix
● 3 blackberries

Muddle blackberries in a mixing glass, add booze, mix, and ice; shake and serve in a chilled martini glass. Ignore your dwindling bank account. Enjoy.
