So You Think You Can Samba?

Contest for Illinois' Best Samba Dancers

Saturday nights can get a little boring if you're checking out the same bars week after week, but some sexy samba dancing might just be what you need to liven up your nightlife.

The Queen of Samba 2009 contest at Fizz Bar & Grill (3220 North Lincoln Avenue) is a good place to start. The event will be presented by HotHouse on Saturday at 10 p.m. in Fizz's HotLoft bar area.

Chicago Samba has been hosting this event for the last 15 years, in a quest to find the best samba dancers in Illinois.

The judges look for someone with "Samba no pe," a contestant with samba in their feet. The contestents also must know how to dance and express themselves or "Sambawise."

Members of the Chicago Samba band, a panel of judges, and the audience will all help determine who's going to be the next Queen and Princess.

Contestants will be judged on their innovation, authenticity, style and grace, beauty, physical poise, overall appearance and coordination.

The first place winner will receive a $300 cash prize, free admission to all Chicago Samba shows, and the title of "Queen of Samba." The second place winner will receive $150, free admission to all Chicago Samba shows and the title of "Princess of Samba."

One final note for the fellas -- guests are encouraged to wear whatever they feel comfortable in -- even if that happens to be a bikini!
