Smashing Pumpkins Plan Late Summer Album

Billy Corgan and new band members to begin recording next month

It's been awhile since fans of The Smashing Pumpkins have heard some new material on an official album, but that's all about to change.

According to a video posted Tuesday on lead singer Billy Corgan's Facebook page, the band will record a new album called "Oceania," to be released around Sept. 1.

The Chicago Tribune's Greg Kot reports that Corgan will begin recording songs next month with his new band members, none of which made up the original Smashing Pumpkins crew.

Corgan also announced plans to release remastered versions of early Pumpkin's albums over the next three years, along with archival material such as early Chicago rehearsals and the band's final show at Metro in 2000.
